Using this website

We believe that information about blood pressure should be available for everyone, easy to find and easy to use.

Our website is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility guidelines to make it as easy to use as possible.

If you have visual problems, struggle to use a mouse, or would simply like some help moving around our site, use the tips below.

Make the text larger
To make the text larger, use ctrl then + on your keyboard.

Find your way round this website
Use the sitemap to see where you are and find the section you want. You can also find the sitemap at the bottom of every page.

These features should also help you find your way around:

  1. Use the main menus at the top - these work by rolling your mouse over the main section names such as Resources or Get Involved - click on the individual section names that appear below in the floating list to go to that section or page.

  2. Use the pictures at the top - each main section or subsection of the site has a common header image.
  3. Breadcrumb of pages- across the top of the content area (underneath the picture at the top) you will see a breadcrumb trail that shows which section, subsection and page you are in. You can click on these links to go up to the selected subsection or section.

  4. Quick link to the home page- on every page, in the top left hand corner, is the Blood Pressure UK logo. Clicking on this logo will take you to the home page of the website.

Find the information you want

In the top right hand corner of every page of the web site you will see a search box. Simply type in what you’re looking for to find the relevant pages.

Move around pages without a mouse

If you find using a mouse difficult, you can use your keyboard to quickly choose links and move through pages.

Press Tab to move from link to link.
Press Shift and Tab to move backwards through the links
Press Page Up or Page down to jump up or down the page
Press Home to jump up to the top of the page
Press Alt and left arrow to go back a page
Press Alt and right arrow to go forward a page.

Use a text to speech browser

We’ve designed the site to help text to speech browsers find only the information that’s relevant and helpful to those with visual problems. For example, we:

  • use Cascading Style Sheets to control the presentation of the site
  • use alternative descriptions for pictures that convey information and avoid using graphics to give text information
  • use title descriptions for all links and ensure that all links contain words that explain where the link will go.

Let us know how we can do better

If there is any way we can improve this site to make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for, or if you have any feedback on our work as a charity, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us.
